Set against the exotic backdrop of the Ottoman Empire, Belmonte, a Spanish nobleman, has been separated from the woman he loves by pirates. He tracks Konstanze to Turkey, where she is enslaved by the Pasha Selim. This humorous tale brilliantly plays on the timeless human foibles that still make Mozart's work ring true. Mozart was said to have been delighted with the colorful and lighthearted story from the very beginning and he lavished on it some of his finest music. Originally premiered only a month before his happy marriage to his own Constanze, The Abduction from the Seraglio returns to the Summer Festival Season repertory in a vibrant and highly theatrical new production!
